York March 2024!
In this Blog I am going to showcase some of the sights and little known places of North Yorkshire, as well as the beautiful city of York and the Seaside Town of Whitby. I will also be sharing some top tips for things to do, places to eat and where to stay!
York is one of the most picturesque cities in the UK and is a great place to consider for a UK Staycation. With its easy reach from London, Scotland, the Midlands and North West England it is little wonder why this amazing city is so popular for a short break away.
There are lots of attractions for all of the family so you will never get bored whether its raining or the sun is shining!
For a Sunny Day I highly recommend the City Sightseeing Bus Tour which offers a Hop-On Hop-Off open bus tour experience with a 24hr ticket available or you can combine the bus with a boat ride with City Cruises along the River Ouse! You can also get some great views from Cliffords Tower which is within easy walking distance from Kings Staith Boat Landing and this is also where you can catch the City Sightseeing Tour.
For a Rainy Day I highly recommend the National Railway Museum. This free attraction (Donations are highly recommended though to appreciate the hard work the volunteers do to keep the museum operational), is the absolute go to for any train lover! With lots of trains from the past including, Mallard, Stephensons Rocket and the first generation Shinkansen (Bullet Train) there is something for everyone. There is also a Road Train that operates from the Minster to the Museum.
Other great attractions that I highly recommend are of course the superb Dungeons and the Iconic Jorvik Centre. Both of these attractions are ideally situated in the Centre of York and there is also a City Pass that I can arrange to include all of York's must do attractions during your stay.
For those into their Snooker and Theatre, the Barbican Theatre is located on the Southern end of the City and hosts the UK Championship in November, along with many shows and concerts all year round. The Theatre Royal hosts the Panto's and many productions by local companies along with the Annual Mystery Plays.
During my visit in March, I stayed in the Premier Inn at Rawcliffe Bar. Ideally situated to the A64 to the motorway and a short 5 minute drive to the Park and Ride into York. The Buses operate every 10-15 minutes all day until late and run into the centre with multiple stops en route. Other hotels more central to note would be the Queens Hotel, situated on the River Ouse, and also the Principal opposite York Station. There really are so many amazing hotels in York you are absolutely spoilt for choice!

The Shambles
Possibly the most famous street outside of London. The Shambles is one of the best known landmarks in York. Its very narrow street towered with medieval buildings housing shops such as Edinburgh Woolen Mill, The Potions Cauldron and the York Viking Gift Shop. There are also a wide range of pubs and restuarants too.
